Umbrella is a lightweight client and solution that combines all the necessary security services provided on a subscription basis in a single cloud platform:

Umbrella works on the principle of protecting before, during and after an attack:
To STOP... Blocks access to malicious resources (domain, URL and IP address) at the request level before they reach the network or endpoints.
To DETECT... Uses analytics and a unique view of the Internet (TALOS) to detect threat trends faster and protects against malicious callbacks to server and control attempts from C2 to stop and block any type of threat.
To REACT… Umbrella Intelligence, powered by threat intelligence, in a single correlated source, provides the most comprehensive view of domain, IP address, autonomous system (ASN), malware and file hash relationships, and adds the security context needed for threat detection and prediction.
Cisco Umbrella implements various network security mechanisms, DNS-level Security, as well as Secure Web Gateway (SWG) with a full-fledged cloud proxy server. Umbrella’s Cloud-Delivered Firewall (CDFW) is also used, which allows you to control all connections, blocking unwanted traffic using rules for IP addresses, ports and protocols.
The AppDiscovery module, which is part of Umbrella, allows you to control almost all applications with blocking function depending on the risk assessment.
